YOU'RE A GENIUS!

Dear Son,

I know, I know . . . everyone thinks this about their own child. And that is to be expected and perfectly normal. [I, for one, just happen to be correct in my assumption.]
Moments ago I observed you with a little box that was once home to a bracelet I received for Christmas. I continued what I was working on, when a few minutes later you presented it to me.

Inside lay Patch, one of the little people from your pirate ship. Not to be left 'out in the cold', you had thoughtfully taken a lens cleaner towelette and draped over him. As if that wasn't brilliant enough - when you handed the make-shift bed to me, you proudly proclaimed "go night-night!"

Wow and wow.

Not even two years old and look at that little imagination at work. I love it Son, and pray that my amazement due to your discoveries is never lessened as the days, weeks and years continue to pass by.

I love you.

.... so THATS what those are for

Dear Son,

You found your pockets today. Don't think or recall you having ever given them a notice before . . . but today in my observations of you, I caught you stuffing your little fists deep into them. I smiled and watched you in your wonderment, wondering myself how long it would be before you grew more keen to your new trick. Not long at all . . . Before I knew it there were refrigerator magnets and pieces of tissue [mom has a cold] being burrowed in those tiny spaces - and so proud you were. At one point I even spied you [unsuccessfully] giving the potato chip bag clip a go - it measures approximately five to six inches. Didnt work so much, so you just clipped it to the tail of your shirt.

While trivial perhaps it may seem to some, I am still stopped each day I get to have the pleasure of being your partner in this world of discovery. I can only marvel with the thoughts of how fantastic this new find must be for you. To have something more than your two little paws to transport treasures from point A to point B . . . well I do suppose that must be some kind of wonderful for you.

And just between we two - watching it all unfold is some kind of wonderful for me.

I love you

plates and tummy aches

Dear Son,

We live in a "clean your plate" [read FAT] society. Don't frown readers (all four of you), you know I'm telling the truth. Out of control proportions and giant size everything. I can't count the number of times I've left a restaurant feeling less than beautiful, (and certainly less than comfortable) because I had to take "one more bite," just because it was there! So this morning Son, I just wanted to make note of the fact that you, in your childlike wisdom - are still young enough to not have had this way of life indoctrinated into your way of thinking and behaving.
Without fail, you never take the last two or three bites on your plate. When feeding yourself - I'll notice you just sitting in your highchair, looking bored after a bit. I approach to see just a bite or two left on your plate. I always fork it and try to give it to you - but regardless how much you love whatever it is that is on that plate, [and at that point, waving in front of your mouth] you turn your head in protest. And the same whenever I'm feeding you . . . once we reach that last bite - your head turns and no amount of coaxing on my part is convincing enough to open the steel trap that is your mouth once it has closed.

So today it occurs to me . . . you're not trying to be difficult -

YOU'RE JUST FULL!!!

Imagine that.

As always, love you Son. Thank you for again today, teaching me where I could use a bit more wisdom.

Happy New Year

Dear Son,

Christmas came and went . . . and trust me, Santa certainly didn't forget to stop here. The lights and sparkles are now packed away - and we mark the beginning of another year. You fell asleep early last night, but woke just in time to let me rock you into the new year.
In keeping with all things new, we also marked a milestone of our own. Your uncle came by and helped me convert your crib into a day bed. You napped in it for the first time today.

Its all going so very fast little one.

I love you
