Bye Bye Baby Seat

Dear Son,

*Sigh*

Ten months old yesterday. Seems you knew it was another big day. It's hard to watch how quickly you're growing now - but never mistake that difficulty for lack of pride . . . the truth of the matter? I couldn't be more proud . . . it just all seems to be going by so fast - and I'm beginning to understand there isn't a parent around who wouldn't say the same thing.
Yesterday your little baby carrier came out of the car. No more carrying you in and out in it, letting you stay in it and sleep when we get inside if you've drifted off during our travels. No . . . now you're in a regular car seat. Seems so strange to see you in it.
I see you testing the waters of your abilities more and more each day. Yesterday, for the first time - while you were pulled up to the couch walking up and down the length of it . . . you just -

let go.

And stood there, with nothing to hold onto for balance, for about thirty seconds. Standing on your own, full of awe and wonder . . . completely unafraid of falling . . . -face beaming from excitement ("hey mom - look what I can do"). You kinda held your arms out at your sides to steady yourself - then when your legs became tired, you just fell on your bottom and crawled away, as if nothing short of miraculous had actually happened.

Unbelievable.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Marianne Williamson

I love you son.
